A Term in Review

Posted By Admin on March 31, 2008 @ 6:35 am

I’m so very than that this term in college coming to an end.  It has been a busy year it will be nice to work or summer job and take my mind off of school for a few short months.

I can look back on the last term with a feeling of satisfaction that I was able to complete everything.  From starting off the term by creating my research proposal, I was able to start my dissertation early and actually finished it before it was due.

Press my biggest challenge over the past term was writing my thesis, but after a number reviews and late nights I was able to get that done as well.  I only have a few more short days left in one more final before I am free for the summer and I cannot wait.

Thankfully, I only have one more year to go unless I come back to do graduate studies.

Getting Caught

Posted By Twyla on March 30, 2008 @ 10:48 pm

I am doing my first year of college through distance education.  What this means, is that I am studying at home and not in a classroom setting.  Because of this I thought that I could get away with buying custom research papers rather than writing my own.  I was wrong and I’m paying dearly for it now.

It all started with a friend who told me you could buy research papers for a low cost and she figured if you read through it you would learn just as much as if you had written it yourself.  It made sense to me and I decided that I would try it.  I found someone who would sell one to me, but it backfired.

I was called out by my professor on my dissertation writing skills.  He suggested that the style of writing was completely different than my previous essays had been.  I admitted to what I had done and because of this I was not expelled.  My grades went down dearly because of that essay and I have learned my lesson.

Rose Gold Goddess

Posted By Twyla on March 20, 2008 @ 11:03 am

Some people look at me really funny when I tell of my love for rose gold jewelry. I just can’t help it. I really love the stuff. Most of the jewelry that I own is rose gold and I think I may love it so much because it is different and unique compared to what other people wear. I have always gone against the flow and my taste in jewelry is no different.

When I was given my diamond eternity ring in white gold, I cautiously asked if it would be okay to switch it for rose gold. I was told that would be fine. That made me so happy and I made the switch the very next day. I loved my new ring and it was completely me.

The only piece of jewelry that I have that is not rose gold is my diamond earring set. You can’t see the gold so much, so it doesn’t matter so much. It was also a gift from my dad, who is no longer around, so I can’t very well go and trade it in. It was purchased for me from his heart and I would not trade it for the world.

Daddy’s Little Jewelry Store

Posted By Twyla on March 14, 2008 @ 1:59 pm

I happen to own a lot of jewelry. It is not because I buy a lot of jewelry, but because my parents are divorced and my dad would buy me gifts to make up for the time that he never spent with me. I know that he tried, but he went through a very selfish stage where no one really mattered to him but himself. In fact, the first visit that he missed was the one that earned me my diamond stud earrings.

The funny thing about this is that I was only six years old at the time. Who, in their right mind, buys diamonds for a six years old? My mom, being the responsible adult, would of course, not allow me to wear the, which I am thankful for now because I know that I wouldn’t still have them if I had worn them back then. And plus, my boyfriend thinks it’s hot when I wear them.

Dad has bought me two JoJo watches and they are absolutely my favorite thing. He has grown out of his selfish phase and tends to make it around to his visitations a lot more than he used to. I don’t really hold it against him, because I know that he really tries and seriously does not know any better. He is being the best dad that he can be and I love him for that.

Wanting the Student Perks

Posted By Twyla on March 11, 2008 @ 11:22 am

I was wondering if there was a difference between college student credit cards and regular credit cards. It seems like a lot of my college friends have credit cards. I chose not to go to college for a few years and I just got my first card. It was like pulling teeth, so I was wondering how it was so easy for them to get them.

I also wondered what would happen if I filled out some student credit card applications. Other than the fact that I am not currently a student, I am working and am in the same age category as the rest of them. Could I really be turned down due to the fact that I was not a student?

I think that credit cards for students also have a lower interest rate than my credit card does. Not that it matters because I pay it off every month. But, some day I may not be able to. I think I am going to try and get one. I will not lie, but it is worth giving it a shot. If all else fails, I will be going to college next year and I can get one then.

Working At A College

Posted By Admin on March 6, 2008 @ 10:39 pm

There is one thing that I find funny in life, and that is some of the people that attend college.  I had many friends start of with amazing dreams of big careers and adventure as a result of their college degrees.  To be honest, some of them did succeed in their dreams.

But others just did not make it.  Sure, they got their degree in their hand, but they missed their dream job completely.  In one respect I find it funny – you know, every time you turn on the television or read the paper, they are always bragging about how much better your life would be if you went to college.  On the other hand, I feel sorry for these people and their dreams that just will never be.

For example, Julia, a girl I went to college with years ago, now works at the college we attended.  She had always had big dreams of starting her own chartered accountant firm, but that wasn’t the way things worked out.  Instead she reads all the admission essays that are mailed in for potential students.

I can’t imagine that reading an application essay would be much fun. What makes me even sadder is that they are online essays, and she is stuck in her cubicle eight hours a day reading them.  Each time I see her, she is never happy and yet she was so full of life and joy back in college.

I wonder if she knew what her eventual job would be if she would have ever attended college.  I guess she will never know.

Submit Edge is my Link Building Strategy

Posted By Admin on February 13, 2008 @ 11:44 am

Many people that own websites have different link building strategies: some people comment on blogs, comment on forums, write and submit articles, do directory submissions, or one of the many other ways to promote their sites.  Instead of focusing on delivering a quality product, they spend most of their time marketing their sites.

I wanted to be different.

You see, I love writing content and marketing, but the website marketing takes too much time.  So much time that I am unable to do it effectively most days.  Instead of quitting my link building, I have decided to outsource it.

I am going to outsource my site promotion to an SEO firm that comes highly recommended: SubmitEdge.com.  They offer a link building service that tackles many of the best link building strategies such as directory submissions, article marketing, and social bookmarking.  I especially love the fact that their article submission service also provides you with the articles that will be submitted – so that I don’t have to spend more time coming up with more content.

Consider outsourcing your website marketing as an effective way to free up some of your time and drive traffic to your websites.

Cheap is Another Word for Deal

Posted By Admin on February 12, 2008 @ 2:56 pm

I know that I used to think that the word cheap was associated with poor quality, shoddy products, or something with some catch involved.  Take a cheap DVD player for example.  If you have ever bought one of those, you probably know that they don’t last too long – and in fact, a large number of them out of the box, just don’t work.

It wasn’t until I went traveling that I discovered that cheap could mean a good bargain and good results.  You see, while in Europe, we found an advertisement for “cheap car hire Portugal” and made a phone call.  The gentleman that we talked to on the phone seemed reliable and we checked out the car rental company.  Their rates were excellent, and the vehicles that they had were of good quality.

After our success with our first car rental, we continued our winning streak with car rentals.  We had a cheap car hire Austria that had perhaps the nicest air conditioner I have ever had the privilege of using in a vehicle.

I can’t forget the staff at the firm that had cheap car hire Greece – they were not mad at us when we locked the keys in the car in their parking lot.

All, in all, I think my views on the word cheap have changed.  Sure, sometimes you can get a poor product or service if it is too cheap, but in most cases, cheap just means it is a good deal – it is really just that simple.

Trying to Figure Out What to do

Posted By Twyla on January 31, 2008 @ 1:54 am

Sometimes I find the decision process to be hard – what to buy, what to wear, and what to use are common questions I face each and everyday.  What I really don’t want to do is throw my money in the garbage – rather I would like to spend it wisely.

Years ago, one of my friends suggested that I checkout the consumer reviews about the product that I was interested in and see what other people say.  You see, if most of the product reviews are negative, then I won’t buy that product.

On the other hand, if the news and opinions I read about a certain product are positive, then I will most certainly buy it.  In some respects, these opinions and reviews take place of asking your friends for advice, and help you make smart decisions.

Recently, I have also been relying on website reviews to help me find good websites to visit.  Not only does this save me time, but it keeps me away from the bad sites out there – all I want to see are the best ones anyway.

When all is said and done, I rely on these reviews so much that if they weren’t there, I just don’t know what I would do.

My Missing Face on Facebook

Posted By Twyla on January 22, 2008 @ 11:25 am

I did not know how to use bookmarks on my computer until just the other day. I am one of those people that have sticky notes all over my desk and computer monitor with website names written all over them. And then, magically, a friend pointed out that I could bookmark these right in my computer.

I have a lot of fun websites written down on my sticky notes and sometime, when I mix them up, I get really angry that I don’t have a better way to organize them. It was so handy to learn that I could do this without the paper trail.

I, obviously, will not pretend that I am very good with the computer or even understand what all the Internet buzz is about, but I enjoy tinkering in my leisure time and I am sure as time goes by, I will learn more and more.

I am interested in learning about different website ratings. I had a friend ask me if I was on Facebook. I had never heard of this before and then found out that anyone who was someone was on Facebook. I am on there now.
