Finding Great Golf Equipment

Posted By June Karlsson on May 28, 2009 @ 8:18 am
by June Karlsson

Good golf equipment can be cheap if you know where to look. I can’t count how many times I’ve gone to yard sales in the summer in my neighborhood and to find an entire set of clubs for $20. Granted, I’m almost certain they weren’t top of the line stuff, but they were suitable for how I play.

I would much rather put a couple hundred bucks in golf lessons from a professional golfer than to plop down $1200 or more for a set of clubs I may or may not use a lot.Yard sales, garage sales, auctions, and second hand stores will all have sets of golf clubs discounted. So yard and garage sales are the first place I’d look.

Next place I would seek out is on ebay.com, the largest online auction site in the world. They have a great business model and you can find really good bargains if you know where to look. As I write this there were over 3000 golf club sets for sale. There were 12,500 golf ball sites that sold golf balls. I even saw a “used golf ball” category. Go online to Ebay and search around, you are sure to find deals.

Amazon.com is another quality and reputable site for finding golf clubs at an affordable price. Many may be upgrading their set so they want to offload their clubs and make some money in the process. You have to search for the deals, but you can still find them.

One disadvantage to these online sites is that you don’t get a ‘touch and feel’ before you buy. You don’t always know what you’re getting. Most major online sites such as Amazon or Ebay have decent return policies (with plenty of reasonable cautions before you actually press the Buy button).

Finally, the next and last place I would go to find good golf equipment is online golf sites (not Amazon-, Yahoo, or Ebay-related), These sites are specifically geared towards the game of golf. They will probably have the word ‘golf’ in the web address.

You can buy good equipment at reasonable prices but you have to be careful. Unfortunately, this is an area that you need to proceed with caution because there are a number of P.T. Barnum disciples out there (”there’s a sucker born every minute”). Be slightly skeptical about your purchases. Not everyone online is as trustworthy and honest as you. On the other hand, find the person with a ton of positive reviews and buy from him. Chances are great that your purchase will also be great. Avoid those who have very few transactions.

Tips For Beginner Guitar Songs

Posted By Payo G Perry on @ 8:11 am
by Payo G Perry

Once you have learned your basic system of chords and strums it wont be long before youll be wondering which beginner guitar songs are best to start with.

Well there are lots of them available. Assuming you have completed the necessary ground work youll be spoilt for choice and quickly building a list of easy guitar songs you can play.

It could be that you are already well versed in the standard beginner guitar songs such as Please Mr. Postman, Knockin on Heavens Door or Stand by Me however many more exist. Each era of music has dished up its own collection of simple guitar songs to choose from.

Firstly youre going to need a Capo. This useful contraption is a gift from heaven for beginners as it allows you to play in many different keys without needing to learn Barre chords.

A quick look through beginner guitar songs will show you that they are almost always built from open chords and not the harder Barre chords. Having said this, by using a capo even harder songs can be converted into open chords and made suitable for beginners to play!

Converting songs this way will greatly increase how many beginner guitar songs are available to you to choose from. Aside from this it will also mean that you can escape the traditional ones everyone else can play and enjoy more freedom and scope.

Please put time into learning your basic chords and strumming patterns before attempting to play songs. I know its easy to want to rush into playing songs and these beginner guitar songs look very tempting! But honestly its a mistake to attempt them too soon and before you are ready.

I would advise that daily practice of the chords and strums youll need for around 4 weeks should be adequate preparation before starting to learn beginner guitar songs.

A technique well worth considering is to identify and separate each element of the song you are trying to learn. Isolate the strum required and practice it without chords, isolate the progressions involved and cycle them with single strums. Do this rather than attempting everything at once.

When you follow this process youll give yourself the best possible chance of mastering beginner guitar songs quickly and easily. Good luck!

Carp Fishing Bait Secrets Of Using Robin Red!

Posted By Tim Richardson on @ 7:54 am
by Tim Richardson

Robin Red is probably the best known successful carp attractor throughout the world and to many anglers, what it is and how it works is a mystery because its full recipe is top secret, but you can get very useful clues on what it is, how it works and how to use it here; so read on…

Robin Red is part of the range of bird foods from a company called Haiths of Cleethorpes England. At present their top ten selling products include the following: Robin Red, Red Factor, Nectarblend, Red Band, Prosecto Insectivorous, Soft Bill, Multi Mix, and Carpticle Mix, Super Red and hempseed. This company have many decades of experience formulating specialised foods for birds for all stages of development and for enhancing plumage, growth, health and so on and these products ideally fit the bill as it were for carp!

Robin Red is a legendary additive and has been known to transform poor catch results instantly. Many of the bird food items mentioned previously have been incorporated into bird food based baits and have been ideal having such digestible and open textures to deliver the stimulation and attraction of Robin Red in baits extremely efficiently. Robin Red is available from endless bait companies but my advice is before you go buying loads, get a small sample from hinders first and them you will be better placed to judge if a bait company product is at least near to the real thing, is the real thing or an outright fake; but only your actual fishing results on each of these will truly tell you what is best to use of course!

The popularity of Robin Red is so great that Im sure that at times in the case of making your own homemade boilies, that if you do not use Robin Red in your bait, it will likely as not be the only carp bait in the water that does not include it! Not using Robin Red can actually be a good thing as carp are so familiar with it on busy very hard-fished carp waters that it could well act as an indicator of potential danger! You might find out a bit more about it and choose to use a component of it instead, or use it in very low levels, this works well winter summer or fall…

Ways to incorporate Robin Red and apply it in homemade baits, spod, method, particles, pellets and boilies mixes are legion. Just dampen your boilies using a mixture of liquid foods and Robin Red… Or try pre-soaking your pellets in any liquids you like and add Robin Red to produce super ground baits, method mixes or spod mixes for example for both winter and summer use.

The formula of Robin Red is secret but what it does to fish is not! Certainly Robin Red is confirmed by Hinders as not containing Carophyll red pigment, but what about other bioactive pigments, such as cantaxanthin? How many carp have been observed to turn a reddish colour at fisheries where Robin Red is applied regularly in even moderate levels; this has made many of my winter fish look amazing!

Homemade boilies benefit even form just an ounce per pound of dry base mix of Robin Red, and even the cheapest soya and semolina mixes are boosted significantly by the highly nutritional stimulation of Robin Red. To boost your pellets, wet them with any liquid even water, and add Robin Red; the red clouding of the water around your bait will certainly improve results when fishing for sight-feeding carp too. Haiths have a mix call Super Red incorporating Robin Red, (which can even be applied in PVA products in neat dry form,) and it contains the following great ingredients:

Super Red has aniseed oil, teasel seeds, crushed Carpticle mix, crushed hempseed, Red Factor, robin Red, peanut granules and crushed tiger nuts. This combination is only one of countless others you could try in making your own boilies, pellets and ground baits and to maximise this and more and to save yourself an fortune in bait costs why not now read on…

Fall Crappie Fishing Tips

Posted By Billy Bob Desroleux on @ 7:18 am
by Billy Bob Desroleux

Fall is the time when most Outdoorsmen think about hunting. However, for many of us Fall is the time when we want to get out on the Lake and go Crappie fishing. Fall can be an excellent time to fill the freezer with Crappie.

First, as the water cools in the Fall, Crappie will begin to move from their deep water Summer hangouts to relatively shallow water I typically find Fall Crappie in 6 to 12 feet of water. After the first good Fall cool front, look for Crappie at the first good drop off from the bank.

Fall Crappie can be caught with a variety of tactics in the Fall. One method I use to find Crappie when they’re scattered is using a Spider Rig. A Spider Rig consist of multiple rods rigged up to fish different depths. When you find Crappie hitting at a certain depth with this method, you can then set all your rods to the depth Crappie are feeding at and take advantage of their aggressive nature.

When is the best Crappie fishing in the Fall? Just before a big cold front is too hit your area. I’ve seen Crappie turn on as far as a week before a cold front was suppose to hit. However, you’ll likely see an increase of feeding activity a few days before a Major front is expected to blow into your area.

Post cold front Crappie can be hard to get to hit your bait. I typically use smaller jigs and minnows. If the weather warms up after the cold front, look for Crappie to become active as soon as a week after the passage of the cold front.

If you’re finding it hard to entice Crappie to bite, try minnows. When the Crappie get tight lipped, generally a Minnow in front of their face will be enough to trigger them into biting. I prefer small minnows and a slow drift to find post cold front Crappie.

Look for Crappie along South facing shorelines after a Fall cold front. South shorelines heat up faster, thus attracting baitfish. Where’s there’s baitfish, hungry Crappie won’t be far behind. Don’t be afraid to fish right up against the bank, especially if there is a South wind blowing baitfish up on the bank.

When the South winds start pushing baitfish against South shorelines, you can find Crappie by using a float and jig setup. You can fish faster with jigs than minnows plus you don’t have to worry about a Crappie knocking your minnow off a hook. If you find the Crappie spread out, you should switch to a Spider Rig to snatch up the Crappie.

Blair Betts

by Denise I Smithson

Drafted by the New York Rangers in the 2005-2006 season, Blair Betts plays the 4th defensive line and is known as one of the best face-off men in the entire NHL.

The New York Post wrote that Blair Betts and his teammate, Sjostrom, could be the best penalty kill tandem in Rangers history and they had a franchise high of 87.6 percent. He has also been declared one of the most underrated players in the league.

Having played for the Calgary Flames since 1998, before joining the New York Rangers, this Canadian born ice hockey player weighs 210 pounds at 6 feet 3 inches. His pro career started in 2001 and he has been a consistent defensive center.

The New York Rangers, however, have not done so well. They are going through their highest losing streak, so it may be hard to determine where some of the praise for Blair Betts is translating into winning games for the team.

Blair Betts has been also plagued with injuries, suffering a broken orbital bone around his left eye in May, 2008, and recovering from an upper body injury in December, 2008. Prior to that injury, he had three goals and five points in 28 games this past season. In his fourth season with the New York Rangers, he has missed time with injuries to his knee, foot and face.

Of course, ice hockey in the NHL can be a rough and tumble game and many defensive players can get injured from rough play or fights on the rink. Blair Betts, at 28 years old, has been playing professionally since 2000, when he joined the AHL, Calgary Flames.

He actually began his career in 1996 playing for the Prince George Cougars in the Western Hockey League, before being drafted by the Flames in the 1998 NHL draft. Some may wonder if it is taking a toll on his health and ability to be a consistent player.

Betts scored eight goals and two assists in his first season as a Ranger and since then, he has played mostly on special teams, being widely known for his penalty killing prowess and skill in face-offs.

In his NHL career, Betts has racked up 27 goals and 18 assists, mostly while playing for the New York Rangers. The Rangers are going through tough times at the moment - and his being sidelined for injuries is probably not helping matters any. However, many believe that the Rangers have a great defensive line; but it is their offense which is not up to snuff.

A lot of fans and sportswriters alike think that the Rangers are at the bottom of the heap right now because they have lost confidence in their abilities and have failed to come together as a team. Maybe Betts’ defensive playing skills can help get the Rangers back in the game - but most think that the team’s management really bears the blame for the team’s poor performance. Blair Betts is a talented athlete who many fans believe would be better off seeking greener pastures elsewhere.

Jason Kidd

by Denise I Smithson

The Dallas Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd is thought to be one of the best basketball layers currently active in the NBA. Before joining the Mavericks, Kidd led the New Jersey Nets to the NBA finals in 2002 and 2003.

His career in the NBA actually began with the Mavericks; he went on to play for Phoenix for a time, until being traded to the Nets before finally coming back home to the Mavericks in 2008, when he scored the 100th triple-double in his career in the final regular game of the season.

The eldest of six children growing up in San Francisco, Kidd spent a lot of his youth playing on the public courts of nearby Oakland, often playing with NBA All-Star Gary Payton. To this day the two speak fondly of their time coming up on the public courts of the Bay area.

While in high school, Kidd was ranked the top high school player in the country, earning the Naismith Award. He stayed close to his native San Francisco, attending college at UC-Berkeley. He was a finalist for the Wooden Award as well as another Naismith while in college and in 1994, entered the NBA draft. When he left his college team, his #5 jersey was retired.

In the NBA, he was a 9-time NBA All-Star and on the All-NBA First team in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. He was on the 1995 NBA All-Rookie First Team, 2003 NBA Skills Challenge Champion and made All Defensive First and Second teams since 1999 to 2007.

Kidd joined forces with some of the other greats of the game on the US Men’s Basketball team in the 2008 Summer Olympics, where they won a gold medal and went undefeated. Kidd has an unbeaten record of 56-0 in USA Basketball (including exhibition games). He has won gold medals in both the 2000 and 2008 Olympic Games.

However, the star’s personal life has not always gone as well as his athletic career. In 2001, he was charged with domestic abuse; he pled guilty to the charge and completed a course of anger management and counseling, in addition to quitting drinking. It was later announced that the couple had reconciled.

Six years later, in 2007, he filed for divorce claiming intense jealousy, paranoia and threats of false abuse charges from his wife. A month later, his wife counter-filed claiming he broke her rib and damaged her hearing by smashing her head into the console of the car. They had three children.

A year later, reports emerged that Jason Kidd and model Hope Dworaczyk were expecting a child.

While he may have had personal problems, Kidd’s record on the court is indisputable. Kidd is one of two players in the NBA to amass a career scoring total of more than 14,000 points, 9,000 assists and 6,600 rebounds. Jason Kidd is also (along with Wilt Chamberlain and Magic Johnson) one of only three players in NBA history who has averaged triple-doubles in multiple playoff games. In fact, he is one of the league’s all-time leaders on double triples, behind only Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson - it should be no surprise that Kidd was named the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year in 2007.

Jason Kidd is nothing if not an accomplished player, having set records and made great achievements in the NBA and as an Olympian. He is also a humanitarian, sponsoring youth programs in the greater Dallas- Ft. Worth area.

Diving Tanks

Posted By Ed J Price on @ 5:01 am
by Ed J Price

The diving tank, originally known as the cylindrical pressure vessel, is one of the most important components of your diving equipment. The main purpose of this diving tank is to store and transport high pressure breathing gas to the diver. The reason the diver stays alive and keeps breathing while underwater is because of this piece of diving equipment. Gas is provided through the part of the diving regulator called the demand valve which the diver puts in their mouth. The most commonly used dive tanks are those which measure up to 80cu. ft. and they are usually worn by average adults whereas other smaller sized scuba tanks are used by teens and petite women depending on their lung size, fitness, and other health factors.

Different Types of Tanks

Aluminum tanks and Steel tanks are the two most common diving tanks. Other than the fact that they are made out of different metals, there is not much difference between the two. Aluminum dive tanks are considered to be the most common in the world. When compared to steel dive tanks, they are more cost efficient and this is why they can be found at almost any scuba rental shop or dive resort. They are easy to carry around as aluminum metal is considerably lighter in weight than steel tanks.

Unlike its aluminum counterparts, steel tanks have way better buoyancy characteristics and they do not float at the end of the dive either. They come in different shapes and sizes and since they are already naturally heavy you do not have spend time counter-weighting them as you would with aluminum tanks. It is proven that a properly maintained steel tank lasts for decades.

Pros

Scuba tanks last up to years if well maintained having you save money for the other scuba equipment which you need to purchase or replace. Both types of scuba tanks can last up to ten years and over, regardless of whether it is steel or aluminum.

Picking a tank which best suits you is very easy. This can be done by understanding multiple factors such as your fitness and lung capacity and knowing how much your body can take. People with different breathing capabilities will find that dive tanks come in different shapes and sizes to cater for their needs.

Cons About Scuba Tanks

Scuba tanks are made out of metal and when metals are in the presence of sea water then rust is most likely to be formed. In order to prevent rust, a lot cleaning needs to be done to your tank and that could take up time and energy because it needs to be done frequently.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the tank itself is quite heavy which, and also due to its sizing, makes it difficult to travel with. So unless you arent doing many local dives then it is best for you to just rent them.

To Conclude

All divers need to wear scuba tanks if they intend to dive and stay underwater for several hours. It will be way cheaper for you to own a diving tank if you are a frequent diver rather than renting one out over the years. A vital requirement in keeping your tank functioning at its fullest is proper and frequent maintenance. As long as you know your bodily limits then picking out a scuba tank which suits you will be a breeze. The costs of dive tanks are very reasonable as their life periods are very lengthy. If you are not happy with the prices then you can always check online for better bargains.

Ronaldo

Posted By Denise I Smithson on @ 4:54 am
by Denise I Smithson

Winger Cristiano Ronaldo signed with the English Premier League club of Manchester United for $21.24 million in 2003. Born on the fifth of February in 1985, he was just 18 years old when he got this contract. After receiving his first cap while playing in 2003 for the Portuguese, he enthralled his fans by scoring his first international goal in the UEFA Euro finals in 2004.

Ronaldo was on the global rise scoring often at both club and international levels and received his first Premier League title in the 2006-07 season. As the Premier League’s top scorer, Ronaldo was named the FIFPro World Player of the Year in 2008. Also in 2008, Ronaldo achieved the Ballon d’Or award-quite the achievement for such a young soccer player.

As the youngest child of Maria Dolores dos Santos Averio and Jose Dinis Averio, his second given name, “Ronaldo,” was an obvious choice to his father naming him after the then US president Ronald Regan, but not for his presidency, Regan was Ronaldo’s father’s favorite actor. Cristiano has two older sisters and one older brother.

Ronaldo began playing for the amateur team C.F. Andorinha when he was just eight years old. Local football club CD Nacional took him in 1995, and for them he played so amazingly well that the Sporting CP club let him play for them for three days and afterward they signed him to a contract for an unknown signing bonus. At Portugal’s Sporting CP, Cristiano attended the Alcochete, a renowned footballer’s academy. He would go on to become the only footballer in history to play for the Sporting CP club’s U-16, U-17, U-18, and B-teams. After much pleading from many of his players and after seeing his talent for himself, Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson signed him to a contract. He became an instant hit with the fans.

With a team behind him, Cristiano, was the very first Portuguese player to sign with an English team and he requested number 23, not wanting the number 7 tied to such players as Eric Cantona or David Beckham, among others; there was sense in Cristiano to be his own player and that he was. His team debut was a 60th-minute substitute winning 4.0 over the Bolton Wanderers. He scored United’s thousandth Premier League goal in October of 2005 and fans voted him to enter his first FIFPro Special Young Player of the Year awards in that same year.

The following year, Ronaldo won back to back Barclays Player of the Month awards. Only Robbie Fowler in 1996 and Dennis Bergkamp in 1997 had done that before. It was when Manchester United was playing against rivals Manchester City F.C. that Christiano’s 50th career goal helped his team win their first Premier League title in four years. Ronaldo was awarded the FIFPro Special Young Player of the Year Award by fan vote again. It looked like Ronaldo might change loyalties and go over to the Real Madrids, so in April of 2006 United got him a contract for $31 million a year, making him the most highly paid player in United’s history.

2006 saw Cristiano win three of football’s top accolades: the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year, and the PFA Young Player of the Year. Cristiano has been know to be, shall we say, hot tempered, and his antics got him banned for three matches in the 2007-08 season. However, he told his coach that in the future he would not allow rival players to get him riled up. He was made team captain for United in March of 2008 and scored 35 goals for the season, breaking the 40-year-record of George Best who had 32 in 1967-1968.

In spite of at one point leaning toward the Real Madrid team, Cristiano chose to remain with United for another year. He scored personal goals nos. 100 and 101 in November during a 5-0 victory over Stroke City; and it then seemed beyond the shadow of a doubt that Ronaldo is heading for football greatness that few players can ever dream of. Manchester United rewarded Ronaldo’s season performance, which he ended with 446 total points, by giving him the first Ballon d’Or award since George Best’s in 1968. There’s no end in sight for Cristiano Ronaldo, much to his fans’ delight.
