Many individuals new to web marketing have some questions about search engine optimization and search engine marketing. Are they one in the same? How are they different? SEO and SEM have many similarities but are not the same.
Let us begin by focusing on search engine optimization also referred to as SEO and comparing SEO to search engine marketing which is referred to as SEM. Both SEO and SEM require a firm understanding of how they work and where they fit in the online marketing mix. SEO requires a strong knowledge of how search engines work and what it takes to achieve top search engine placement. Search Marketing requires a firm understanding about online advertising, keywords, and ROI.
From the outside, both internet marketing methods appear to be very complex. The truth however, is that SEO and SEM are simple to understand. Implementation of best practices is what makes success such a challenge. Search engine optimization is essentially the techniques you use to rank well on major search engines is a direct result of your understanding and application of proven techniques in the area of SEO.
Search engine marketing is the practice of online advertising via major search engines. Even though Google is the largest and most well know, there are literally hundreds of smaller ad networks. Each network functions in much the same way. Advertisers place online ads throughout the network and when a browser clicks, you pay a fee. This is true regardless of conversion.
Search engine optimization is different from search engine marketing in many ways. SEO is defined as the organic result that shows up in search engine results pages after a user generates a query. Techniques associated with SEO are broken down into on-page optimization and off page-optimization. These techniques have their own nuances but are independent of one another.
The result is that search engine optimization drives organic traffic to your website or blog. That is to say that after users complete searches on major search engines like Yahoo! or Google that the results list comes from each search engine determining the best result. When users click on these results the advertisers owes nothing. Organic search is usually referred to as free traffic for this very reason.
Search engine marketing differs in that you pay when users take an action. Unlike traditional advertising you do not pay for your ad to display. You do however pay when a browser clicks on your ad. The amount you pay varies on the competitiveness of your keywords and the position in which you want your ad to display.
Online marketing is based on a good understanding of SEO and SEM best practices. These internet marketing subject areas are common among today’s marketing professionals but rarely do you find the level of expertise needed for success. Learn more about these subject ares with some research and be sure to subscribe to an SEO newsletter or blog. As you gain more knowledge implement new techniques and improve your rankings.
Whew! The hard work is done right? You’ve put blood, sweat, tears and cash into the creation of your video content and now it’s up on the web. If you publish it, they will come right? Wrong! You’ve got some more work that needs to be done before the masses come rushing to watch your videos and the first thing you need to do is to get the search engines indexing your videos. So here are a handful of tips so get reading already because time is a wasting.
Keywords “These are, well, key. If you don’t have accurate keywords attached to your video intelligent video search bots aren’t going to be able to pick up your videos so what makes you think that intelligent web surfers will do any better? These keywords should be incorporated into the title, description and used in meta tags for your videos. This applies if you’re hosting the videos on your own site or if you’re putting them up on a video sharing site.
Video Sharing Sites “You will not be surprised to learn that YouTube gets more traffic than your website does. So why not put your video where the most people can find it? YouTube is one of the most popular sites on the web and one of the great things about it is that you won’t get hit for duplicate content in Google’s index when you post your videos up there. A pretty cool advantage for a small amount of work really. Making a channel to group all of your videos together will also help to strengthen brand awareness as they will be easier to find.
RSS and MRSS “These two protocols allow you to tell the search engines when your site updates and when you post something new on the web, specifically for MRSS a media file. There are very specific formats required for these files but they’re easy enough to research. Many CMS software packages even make them automatically so you don’t even really need to worry about making it, just submitting it. This will really help the search engines find you content when you tell them where these files are and soon your videos will be shooting up the search engine results charts.
Three simple things you can do to help get your videos noticed by the search engines. No they’re not the only things you can do but are more like the tip of the iceberg. These are probably three things that you will most often see suggested by SEO people. They are not the only things you can do and others include good content that’s interesting and easy to share with others.

The Site Rush is a new product that deals with the sometimes difficult field of Website Flipping. It’s a project by the hand of Saj P, a big name in internet marketing. According to him, this market is huge, and wide open for anyone willing to give it a go.
So let’s see if we can identify a few different ways we could make money by flipping websites. Which websites would be good investments, and why?
A good way to start, is by finding a website that is related to the product or service that you are offering yourself at the moment. If you buy a website in a related field, you could use it to funnel traffic to your own site, and therefore increase your sales level.
Advertisement is another way to benefit from a website you buy. Especially if they are not advertising a lot on the website at the moment, and you know they get decet traffic, this spells opportunity
What you could do is just leave the website as it is, and change only the advertising. This way you can easily make some profit.
Now that the advertising has improved, the website has become a lot more valuable. One possibility is to just sell it off, which is our final point:
This one may be a bit more risky than the other two, but you could just buy websites with the intention to sell them straight away and still make money. The nice thing about this, is that it’s not a lot of effort. But of course you would need good information on where to buy cheap, and where to sell expensive.
Those were a few of the most applied strategies for flipping websites. I barely scraped the top of what there is to know about it. If you are interested in starting website flipping yourself, check out The Site Rush, this course is filled to the rim with insider tips and tricks of the trade.
Those who have been in the industry since the late 90′s have seen huge changes in SEO. The industry has really matured. But in the grand scheme of things, if you were to plot SEO on a product life cycle chart you would see that the industry is still in its’ infancy. SEO – Introduction Stage – Starting about 1998
Companies who were around in the introduction stage often had to build product awareness and develop a market for SEO. In the early ’2000′s, many of our clients had just build their first websites. This was a significant investment for them and they thought that now that they have a website, the online sales would just flow in. Many didn’t realize that they had just invested serious coin into an over-priced business card. Because nobody could find them.
At this point, there was little consistency in the product. And as the algorithm got more complex, the SEO offering varied more. Some companies were offering to “submit to hundreds of search engines” (some still are) whilst others were offering usability, analytics and site architectural input in addition to on-page and off-page SEO.
SEO – Early Growth Stage – we’re still just at the beginning of it.
In the early growth stage, smart SEO companies are beginning to think about building their brand and to increase market share. Demand is increasing as more customers understand the benefits of “getting found”. There is some competition at this stage but because the market is broadening so much, competition is limited and there is still a huge amount of camaraderie within the industry. 10 years into it, it?s easy to assume that our industry is more mature than it actually is. We’ve only just begun.
Customer Implication
Demand has already started to increase but it is going to skyrocket. And it’s going to come from all types of business from very small customers to Enterprise type of businesses.
Up until recently, the neighborhood dry cleaner didn’t care if someone across the country found their website because they deal within a 5 km radius got very little benefit from optimizing their website. Now as local search gets much better, those local business will become much more serious about the opportunities online
It is also likely that we’ll see a lot of growth from Enterprise clients. These clients previously resisted SEO due to the complexity of working within legacy back-end systems. As technology increases and back-end systems become less expensive for more capability, we’re going to see companies replace their antiquated CMS’s with Search Engine Optimization friendly options.
Another change that this stage of the product life cycle will bring is in our relationship with the client. As SEO becomes a bigger part of the mainstream marketing mix, our customers will become more and more knowledgeable about SEO (we?re already starting to see this).
We’ll move from having a sales / consultative role to being a thought partner. Our clients will have a good understanding of what needs to be done but they’ll outsource it to us because we’re more efficient at implementing.
Competition Implication
With high growth in revenues, low barriers to entry, and no certification required, the SEO industry is prime for attracting any and all new entrants. There have always been new competitors. But the face of our competition is going to change greatly. Up until now competition has focused primarily on small start ups and web design firms who decide to add a search component. Some stick around but many are wiped out with the next major shift in the algorithm. This phase of the SEO life cycle is going to attract better capitalized, stronger competition from many sectors. These new entrants are attracted to SEO by the potential for profits not by the fit with their offering.
We are already starting to see traditional media firms seek to protect their eroding revenues by grabbing a slice of the online pie. But WalMart has shown us that future competition could be anyone. And it will be.
No all new entrants are attracted by dollar signs. There are also companies that are feeling increased pressure to offer a more well rounded package. As the integration of offline and online marketing services increases, customers are putting more pressure on agencies to handle the full scope of their marketing spend including the online component.
Although we’re already starting to see increased competition, many existing SEO companies aren’t feeling the pinch yet because demand is also increasing. One implication of increased demand coupled with new entrants to the market is the impact on supply. We’re starting to experience a shortage of experienced SEO talent SEO talent is a scarce resources. And this scared resource is not yet being renewed at a fast enough pace. Whilst some colleges are starting to offer digital media / internet marketing diploma, these grads know very little about what it takes to optimize a website.
Moreover, what they do know is limited to theory. It?s one thing to know that links are important to ranking. Its an entirely different thing to know how to effectively build links. So what?
Who cares where we are in the product life cycle?
Although we’ve already experienced a lot of growth, this growth is nothing compared to what we?re about to experience. In this next stage of the SEO life cycle, we?re going to see shifts in our clients, competition and product offering. Knowing that this is coming, will allow you to prepare. If we know that face of our competition is going to change from other small to mid sized SEO’s to large Agencies and Enterprise size companies in totally unrelated industries then we can prepare for this by determining how we’re going to differentiate ourselves from the new entrants.
And if we know that there is going to be increased pressure on skilled resources then we should be developing in house training programs now. The future is now. And it’s only just begun.
Ever wanted to search for some information which you urgently required? You just have to find a good search engine to get the optimum results for your query. A search engine is a program which is designed to search documents and other information for a given list of specified keywords and in result returns a list of documents and web links where the keywords are found. This term is specifically used to describe various systems such as Google, AltaVista and duoseek.
Searching for information has never been easier to do. Go to a search engine like www.duoseek.com enter the keyword (what you are looking for) and press search. The results appear in mere seconds, and you are sure to find what it is you have searched for with ease.
Duoseek is a powerfull search engine, given the fact that you can search for many things, like audio, images, blogs and much more from the easy to use search engine interface on the main page of the website at www.duoseek.com.
Search engines have they’re own way of finding results. It is all based around search algorithms, and of course each search engine also has they’re own set of rules surrounding this. So how does a search engine find what it is your looking for? They search for information containing your keyword, and this keyword could be in the title of the webpage, or in the first few lines of the actual webpage.
When a search engine returns it results, there may be thousands or even millions of webpages that contain what it is that you were searching for. So how does a search engine know which results to show you? Yhey return results based on a webpages ranking, keywords in the title and webpages that have the keyword your searching for in the first part of the body of the page.
When we use a search engine like duoseek, we never once stop to think of how a search engine makes its revenue. Many search engines have google adsense as a source of revenue, but the big money comes from people like you and I, or business advertisers, who are will to spend, and spend alot, to have they’re add or link on the search engine website, or in the search results.
If you take even the slightest interest in online marketing, you must have heard about “Affiliate Payload” and “4 Tier Annihilation Method”. These are recent products by well know marketing duo Alex Goad and Saj P. Now they have a new project that will soon be released, which is called The Site Rush.
What is it about? Well, The Site Rush looks at a specific kind of online business: Website Flipping. That’s a fancy name for buying websites and selling them for a profit. Saj and Alex look at it as virtual real estate.
But what are the money making possibilities with website flipping? We will have a closer look at it in this article.
If you look around on the internet with the eye of a marketeer, a few things are pretty obvious. First of all, (and you don’t have to be a marketeer to notice this one) there are a lot of very poorly made websites.
You can also find websites that ARE good, that people like to use and spend time on, but they are not making money. Or maybe just a little. After all, turning a good website into a cash machine is a skill on its own.
The last category are websites that are good enough, that also have good monetizing built into them, but they just don’t have enough visitors to make it work. How come? Well, usually it’s a matter of poorly done SEO. If people don’t find the site, they don’t use it.
There is an obvious point I still have to make, because all of us tend to forget about it: The internet has just started! Nothing is cast in stone yet.
Most online markets are pretty much wide open for you, me or anyone else to enter and eventually take over with a solid website and service. It’s a matter of finding that site that lacks in one of the three topics I listed above: It’s poorly made, poorly monetized or the SEO is not good. If you can buy that website and improve it, you might strike gold!
Can anyone do this? Well I really doubt it to be honest. At the moment I don’t fancy my chances if I tried my hand at it.
But with The Site Rush coming along, I might just have a good look at it. Saj P. and Alex Goad are some pretty knowledgable people. If they can really show me a “fail-proof” way of getting into the website flipping business I am more than willing to put their system to the test.
Do I believe this? I am not a 100% sure. But I think I will check out their product, because I just can’t help myself being curious. Anything internet related has my interest anyway, and to be honest.. Internet AND money related is a combination I can hardly say no to.
And it can be even more interesting because lots of sites offer a The Site Rush Bonus when you buy the product through them.
There is no doubt that back links are extremely important when you are doing your search engine optimization. And you will need to try your best to get quality and relevant links. However, you should also take care of the contents of your site. The on page SEO of your website is just as important as the off page SEO.
The first thing you need to consider is the main theme of your site. It is very important for you to think about this. This is because your theme will affect your main keywords. On the contrary, if your site does not have a main theme. You may not really know what keywords should you target at when you are creating the contents of your site.
It is very strange that some webmasters will create articles on weight loss in a finance site. In fact, the articles you created should be also following the main theme of your site. Taking a finance site as an example, you will not create articles about breast caner in your finance site. Yet you will create articles on topics such as loan and insurance.
The next step is to take care of the meta tags in each web pages. As all experts will tell you, you wil need to make sure that the title contains your main keywords. It is also important that each page will target at different keywords.
Besides the title, you may also check the meta description and meta keywords. Of course there are views that search engines will not really consider these elements. However you may still want to do it right in order to play safe. Again, you will be including your keywords in the description and keyword tags.
The interlinking between various pages is also very important. You will need to make the hierarchy clear. Of course it is on one hand for the search engine and SEO. On the other hand your visitors will also find your site better if you can make the hierarchy clear.
When we talk about links, you will need to consider both inbound and outbound links. You will try to build inbound links by starting link building campaign. On the other hand, you will also link to other sites. Remember, you should only link to sites which are related to yours.
In fact, it is not difficult to do the on page SEO work. However, you will need to spend some time to do it. Otherwise there is no way for you to fight for the first few positions in search engines.
If you have an existing home business or are into direct sales, and you feel the need to increase the volume of your business; Then taking online is just the thing, and it’s easier than ever.
