Wearable Jewelry from Recycled Material at the American Craft Show

If you are living in the Atlanta, GA area you’ll be ecstatic to know that about the American Craft Show that happens every year at around March. Normally held at the Cobb Galleria Centre, you’ll be able to see all sorts of crafted pieces and artworks that will be a pleasure to you and your friends. You may even find some jewelry pieces that will be the delight of your wife.

I try to go to these craft shows whenever I can, as I am an advocate of such events. This year, you will be able to see crafted items that make use of recycled materials. While I am more inclined towards the traditional crafts myself, I still feel that these are worth looking at.

Let’s take the example of jewelry that I made earlier. To me, jewelry is only wearable when made from some sort of “jewelry” caliber material. I don’t plan on giving my wife some materials made from twigs and discarded building materials. It may work on sculptures, perhaps; but to me, there’s a difference between art and street wear.

I will note, however, that there is one exception to my metal and gemstone rule. The trinkets found at Alexandra Bitner’s lucite jewelry are just fantastic and very wearable. It is very hard to design something fashionable out of what many would consider to be trash, but Bitner manages to do that quite well.

If the concept of recycled jewelry appeals to you, or you simply want to do your part for the environment, then go to the American Craft Show held every year. And it’s not just jewelry, to be fair; other works of art are made from such materials. It’s not my thing, but to each his own. And if you’ve missed the American Craft Show, don’t worry; there are other craft shows out there that you could attend year round.

Finding Great Golf Equipment

Posted By June Karlsson on @ 8:18 am
by June Karlsson

Good golf equipment can be cheap if you know where to look. I can’t count how many times I’ve gone to yard sales in the summer in my neighborhood and to find an entire set of clubs for $20. Granted, I’m almost certain they weren’t top of the line stuff, but they were suitable for how I play.

I would much rather put a couple hundred bucks in golf lessons from a professional golfer than to plop down $1200 or more for a set of clubs I may or may not use a lot.Yard sales, garage sales, auctions, and second hand stores will all have sets of golf clubs discounted. So yard and garage sales are the first place I’d look.

Next place I would seek out is on ebay.com, the largest online auction site in the world. They have a great business model and you can find really good bargains if you know where to look. As I write this there were over 3000 golf club sets for sale. There were 12,500 golf ball sites that sold golf balls. I even saw a “used golf ball” category. Go online to Ebay and search around, you are sure to find deals.

Amazon.com is another quality and reputable site for finding golf clubs at an affordable price. Many may be upgrading their set so they want to offload their clubs and make some money in the process. You have to search for the deals, but you can still find them.

One disadvantage to these online sites is that you don’t get a ‘touch and feel’ before you buy. You don’t always know what you’re getting. Most major online sites such as Amazon or Ebay have decent return policies (with plenty of reasonable cautions before you actually press the Buy button).

Finally, the next and last place I would go to find good golf equipment is online golf sites (not Amazon-, Yahoo, or Ebay-related), These sites are specifically geared towards the game of golf. They will probably have the word ‘golf’ in the web address.

You can buy good equipment at reasonable prices but you have to be careful. Unfortunately, this is an area that you need to proceed with caution because there are a number of P.T. Barnum disciples out there (“there’s a sucker born every minute”). Be slightly skeptical about your purchases. Not everyone online is as trustworthy and honest as you. On the other hand, find the person with a ton of positive reviews and buy from him. Chances are great that your purchase will also be great. Avoid those who have very few transactions.

Business Goals are the Key and Important Part of Creating a Successful Business

Posted By Ed Jamison on @ 8:17 am
by Ed Perry

Making sense of good business goals is an active part of the planning that goes into any business that’s being contemplated by a person who may be thinking of becoming an entrepreneur. It’s great that the entrepreneurial spirit exists in most people, but without having some solid goals in mind, they may not be able to turn into the new age Bill Gates or Martha Stewart they hope to be, to use them as examples.

It’s probably true that most anybody would like to start their own business, one day. But it’s also probably true that failure can result when the business never has concrete goals set, and can’t direct its efforts towards achieving those goals. So it should be that some time is spent on actual and realistic goal creation.

What is meant by this is that how goals are created and when they’re created makes up a large part of planning for a business to go into operation some day. Smart business owners will realize they need to begin setting business goals as soon as they’ve made the decision to go into business itself.

In this regard, it’s usually true that at this phase, the single biggest goal is to come up with reasons for why the business is going to do what it’s going to do. If it can’t, maybe it shouldn’t proceed.

The goal in this regard is both inward directed – to give the owner a good chance at making a living – and outward directed (especially outward directed): Help a consumer identify the issues which are most important to him or her, and then set up the processes that will let them address them.

If some of this seems difficult, the process can be aided by a number of effective business planning and goal creation software programs out on the market nowadays. Most will include development of a business plan, with separate goal-setting and implementation sections. There are a limitless number of variations on this theme.

Now, since software to help is abundant, it’s important to ensure the appropriate one is used and that’s related to the business to be created. Once done, it becomes a matter of selecting the right goals and then setting up the right processes to meet them.

Developing effective business goals today don’t have to be all that difficult as long as they’re created in a logical manner. Go into the business creation activity clear-eyed and willing to proceed in a systematic manner, and then goal-setting will eventually lead to long-term success.

Try Hypnosis To Lose Weight

by Mark Tuttle

I know too well the challenges of being overweight. Since I was a youngster I’ve had to face the issue of my weight problem. As I got older, it seemed that it got worse and worse and I felt totally powerless to do anything about it.

But when I learned about the link between hypnosis and weight loss, it became clear to me that there was a way out after all. I was, of course, a bit cynical about hypnosis when it was offered as a possible treatment. But I had to admit that I was convinced when I saw how successful many of my friends were who, after trying hypnosis, lost weight and kept it off for good.

I didn’t understand that instead of being a form of mind control, hypnosis was in reality a kind of medical procedure that was usually done under the care of a licensed psychiatrist. I began to feel a little hope about the potential of hypnosis and weight loss for myself.

I was faced with the choice of either entering a hypnosis and weight loss program with a qualified professional or going through the process by myself. It’s essential to do thorough research before making this decision. Success depends completely on finding the best way for you.

Many of the various self hypnosis courses I learned about appeared to be very positive. I learned that it wasn’t some kind of magic, but was instead a practical technique that would provide me with the ability to beat my old habits of unhealthy eating and inadequate exercise. I now enjoy letting others who need to know how hypnosis and weight loss programs can really work.

If you can relate to my experience, than you know the hopelessness of trying to control your weight, and it feels like it never ends. But you don’t have to be a victim anymore. Hypnosis and weight loss could turn out to be the solution to your finally winning the fight to permanently lose weight and keep it off for the rest of your life.

Bodybuilder’s Guide to Optimal Nutrition

Posted By Marcus J. Dawson on @ 8:16 am
by Marcus J. Dawson

Proper nutrition is the cornerstone of an athlete’s career. Still, many athletes do not realize the importance of this or they’re just simply clueless about the subject. Not knowing anything about nutrition will lead to bad habits that then result in an unsuccessful career. Take for instance bodybuilders who take weight loss to the extreme before a competition. Extreme weight loss produces a lot of stress on one’s body and this can lead to a difficulty in increasing muscle mass and strength over the long-term. Nutrition simply is eating the right food, at the right amount, and at the right time. Knowing this is not enough, you also need to practice it. This entails you to strictly monitor and record your food and calorie intake and abide by nutritional principles.

Many misconceptions surround nutrition. Fairly recently, high protein diets have become popular. However, limiting yourself to eat only protein has its downsides. Catherine Jackson in her book “Nutrition for the Recreational Athlete” maintains that a high-protein diet often causes irritability and lowers endurance in an individual. I’ll list here some basic and valuable guidelines on nutrition to help you with your training.

Dwindling Strength – Insufficient protein is the culprit behind this. Strength is an important factor in maintaining a regular training program. Do not solely rely on protein drinks and bars for your daily protein supply. It would be better if you source your protein from organic products such as chicken breasts (or white meat), egg whites and soy-based products.

Being moody and irritable -A moody and irritable athlete won’t be able to focus during training. Moodiness and Irritability is actually brought about by low blood sugar. This can be interpreted as a sign that you’re not eating enough carbohydrates. If this is the case then you can stabilize your blood sugar level by eating small amounts of fruits, vegetables and whole grains throughout the day. Don’t forget about protein as it also reduces your blood sugar absorption rate.

Increase in sickness – Being sick all the time is a sign that your immune system is weakened. Combat this by incorporating different food groups into your diet. Consume foods that are high in B vitamins and minerals such as milk, fish and soybeans.

Reduced pace – If you think your pace is on a decline then you might not be getting enough energy before your workout. Eating carbohydrates at least one hour before training will give you the energy you need to bring you back to speed.

Eat right and rest – Lack of motivation is a sign of burnout. Give your body enough time for rest. Not eating right can also cause stress to your body. Experts suggest that we eat several small meals distributed over the day instead of a few heavy meals. Eating heavy will make your body work harder to digest all those food. This will also lead to an unstable energy level. Professional athletes are commonly known to eat mini-meals every 2 to 3 hours. This helps in maintaining a stable blood sugar level needed for training.

Criminal Defense Cases are More Complex than a Hollywood Movie

Posted By Sunny Emmerwitz on @ 8:13 am
by Joe Demayoson

The Hollywood-portrayed setting glorifies criminal defense cases. Dynamic lawyers on both sides stand and speak with audacity to convince a stoic jury. A stern judge hammers his mallet, and witnesses blurt out testimonies – or admit guilt – while the stunned crowd gasps at every breath and word spoken. The defendant looks forlorn and teary-eyed while the prosecution sneers with snake eyes and creepy smiles.

Most of Hollywood’s court cases involve murder or other large-scale cases. In real life, the setting might be that dramatic for someone who is facing criminal charges, but an audience might not tune in to see what most criminal cases are about. Charges like misdemeanors, DUIs, assault, theft, drug charges and traffic violations probably won’t bring in the ratings – Jude Judy is an exception.

So, in the real world, what is criminal defense? Who needs a criminal defense lawyer?

By definition, a criminal defense lawyer specializes in defending both individuals and companies that are charged with criminal conduct. Criminal law pertains to the relationship between an individual and the state. Those cases are heard in criminal court. Civil law, however, is between individuals and is dealt with in civil court. A person would want to hire a criminal defense attorney if they have been charged with any crime against the state, i.e. DUIs, traffic violations, misdemeanors, etc. If someone is suing you, you won’t want to hire a criminal defense attorney.

If there is one philosophy about criminal defense, it’s this: “Guilty until proven innocent.” Prosecutors have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that that the defendant is guilty in every single essential part of the case. It doesn’t matter if it’s a serious or minor crime; juries have to be unanimous in a guilty verdict to convict a defendant. In some serious crimes, the jury has to be unanimous that the defendant is not guilty in order to be acquitted. If the jury isn’t united, that is often called a “hung jury,” which might result in a retrial.

Criminal defense lawyers fight with their defendants through that whole process. They do more than just litigation, too. They also deal with all the surrounding circumstances such as the searches of the client or the client’s property, apprehension, and the arrest of the client. Criminal defense lawyers help their clients make the right statements – or none at all – and guide their clients in other issues to protect their client’s rights.

Many lawyers are not fit to represent individuals that are facing criminal charges. There is a certain weight, or pressure, to handling criminal defense cases. The consequences to a conviction can be severe. If a criminal defense attorney loses, that can mean lifetime in jail or the death penalty. Some lawyers don’t want to take on that burden of responsibility.

Some people who are facing a criminal charge may not have the money to hire a criminal defense lawyer. Those individuals are often assigned public defenders. Public defenders are employed by the state, the county or the federal government.

There is a sentiment that public defenders aren’t paid well and thus do not do a very good job. That is a stereotype that is unfair to many that have made a career out of being a public defender. While public defenders often are comprised of recent law school graduates, there are many other experience lawyers who have dedicated their life to representing those that need help and don’t have the deep pockets needed to hire well-known lawyers.

Patio Cushions – Types and Fillings for Practical Considerations

Posted By Peter Jordan on @ 8:12 am
by Sheri Terry

Cushions make good patio accents aside from providing additional comfort and support for homeowners. Among the many types of patio cushions are chair pads, floor cushions, and pet beds.

First is the chair pad. Original purpose of the chair pad is to make hard seat surfaces more comfortable and softer to sit on. However, recent consumer need like style and medical conditions caused chair pads to adapt in the changing times. Several designs like floral and stripes are now available to blend with different themes by each user. Various sizes are also manufactured to fit on different chair sizes ranging from single chair to family couches. Furthermore, special material and pad design are being researched to alleviate some medical conditions like injuries and back problems.

Some homeowners combine patio cushions and furniture into one. This is known as floor cushion and is ideal for those who avoid expensive and bulky patio furniture. Floor cushions are smaller and easier to rearrange because of its lightweight and not to mention its cheaper price compared with typical furniture. Such cushion implies fresh idea through its striking color and provides comfortable seat for families and guests through its firm construction.

For cats and dogs, pet beds as their cushioning. Through its carefully researched material and construction, pet beds provide the same level of comfort for household pets as that with human cushion.

In addition to cushion type, another important consideration for patio cushions is its filling. Different outcomes and levels of comfort can be achieved through varying types of fillings.

First filling type is conventional foams. It is commonly used in couches, mattresses, and other indoor and outdoor applications. It comes in different shapes ranging from rectangular blocks to T-shaped foams. Consumers also have the option for rounded foam edges and custom-made shape depending on their needs. Aside from patio applications, conventional foams are also used for window seats and boat mattresses.

One filling alternative for conventional foam is the outdoor foam. While conventional foams are used in covered patios, the latter is very much applicable for uncovered patios and other outdoor applications. It has bigger foam cells causing water to penetrate to the other side of the foam with little effect on its performance.

Patio cushions like foam sacks, bolsters, and leg pads can provide additional comfort and support to users because it can follow the contour of the body. This is achieved through the use of advanced fillings like memory foams and polyurethane. Foam sacks are simply bean bags filled with polyurethane rather than bean-like stuffing. Bolsters are tube-like cushion commonly used as fillers but can also be used for leg and back support. Lastly, leg pads are similar to swimming pull buoy used in minimizing pressure in the lower body.

Homemade Acne Remedy – The Quick Acne Cure Secret They Don’t Want You To Know

Posted By Felix Schmieder on @ 8:12 am
by Felix Schmieder

For all the money I spent on typical treatments, I wish I knew about the only homemade acne remedy that worked. Growing up I never had acne breakouts that were to bad and my parents told me they’d go away by themselves in time, so I never worried to much.

Flash forward some years later and on top of still having acne, it was progressively getting worse. So much money was wasted on products for my face. I even tried some homemade acne treatments that were good, but they couldn’t cure me.

Typical medications were always to harsh for my skin. My face would somehow be oily, dry and itchy all at once, go figure. Facials and masks made with homemade acne remedy products worked better because they were gentle, but I was never completely clear. I was just so tired of having acne and wanted the breakouts to end.

That’s when I started reading about more holistic treatments. Acne itself isn’t a skin problem; it actually starts deeper inside your body. Acne is just a symptom that there is something unbalanced inside your system.

What causes that imbalance?

Said plainly, it’s from the food we eat. The western style diet has far, far to many sugars, starches and hydrogenated oils while lacking important vitamins and minerals. This poor diet causes toxins to build up in our systems and causes hormones to cause breakouts.

Just like in our adolescent years.

These hormones are what cause our acne and that’s why anything you put on your face can never cure you. The best homemade acne remedy is to start eating a healthier diet and drinking more water. You’ll bring your body back into balance and see amazing results in a short time.
