The DarkMoon Faire comes around in World of Warcraft again and again… every month like clockwork. And with the Faire comes a lot of gold-making opportunities.

Even though there has been a lot of changes made on World of Warcraft ever since Wrath of the Lich King came out, the DarkMoon Faire can still make you huge amounts of gold, if you camp the vendors, buy up their stocks, and basically hang around the Faire.

Among WoW gold guides, the best Darkmoon Faire gold-making info comes from Jonathan Kenins. He does a complete walkthrough in his Massive Gold Blueprint. In a series of step-by-step videos, he talks about how the WotLK Lich King economy changed the Darkmoon Faire farming strategy.

The short story is that WotLK has changed the DarkMoon Faire economy a lot, but it is still possible to make huge amounts of gold in the Faire. Not as good but it’s still profitable.

The Exotic Goods vendor Lhara and Professor Thaddeus are one of your best bets at making gold through the DarkMoon Faire, camp out at their booth at the back of the faire and wait for their stocks to replenish.

You should keep an eye out for items such as herbs like Frost Lotus, Netherbloom, Black Lotus, Terocone, Ghost Mushroom, Dreamfoil, Goldclover, Adder’s Tongue, Wild Steelbloom, and Deadnettle. Even lower-level herbs like Earthroot, Khadgar’s Whisker and Mageroyal are worth picking up here and re-selling on the acution house.

You can also do well with some of the elementals, like Crystallized Fire, Crystallized Air, Crystallized Earth and Crystallized Life. Even the older (and less desirable) Motes can turn a profit on many servers, especially is you focus on Mote of Fire and Mote of Air.

Leathers aren’t a big deal in the DarkMoon Faire, you can still make some gold by buying and selling leather items such as the Knothide Leather and the Rugged Leather. However, the real star of the DarkMoon Faire leathers is the Arctic Fur. This leather item rarely appears in Lhara’s booth, but if you do see it, you should grab it up because you can sell it in the auction house for 25 gold and up.

There are some items to avoid too, simply because they’re not profitable enough. You might even lose gold on them. Avoid all of the gems including Nightseye, Living Ruby, Dawnstone, Noble Topaz, Star of Elune, and Talasite. These sell at the Faire for 12g each, but in WotLK days, they won’t sell for anything like that much in the auction houses. Avoid the scrolls as well, because these are much cheaper than before because of Inscription.

While you’re at the Faire, try to catch Flik if you can. You can get Wood Frogs and Tree Frogs from him, and you should definitely stock up on these items most especially the Wood Frog Box because it’s limited supply and you can get a lot of gold by selling them gradually through the month after the DarkMoon Faire has ended.

Wrath of the Lich King expansion has changed the economy a lot, and with it comes a decrease in gold profit from the DarkMoon Faire, before, a normal turn out from the DarkMoon Faire was around 600g to 1000g, now the best amount of gold that you can hope to earn is around 500g. That’s still a good amount of gold though, so it’s definitely worth it!
