What actually is thrush? Also known as yeast infection or candidiasis. It stems from a natural fungus normally known as being harmless and generally associated with women (where it grows on or in their bodies). However, when this natural fungus grows excessively, it causes thrush (vaginal candidiasis). Discomfort from this is usually irritation and soreness of the vulva. Some women may notice a change in their vaginal discharge but not in all cases of sufferers.
The majority of the population has a natural fungus in their bodies which lies dormant and perfectly safe alongside many others. Itis this fungus, when it rapidly overgrows, which leads to thrush. When thrush is mentioned people normally think only of vaginal thrush. However, it can also effect sufferers in the mouth, colon, stomach and throat. When there is no overgrowth of this natural fungus the human body is not blighted by thrush.
Thrush can be found in the male genital area as well as females. The transmission of this infection, as well as what sex it comes from is not exclusive to women. Men also can be the origin of thrush and pass it on to a sexual partner. The thinking that it is only women who spread thrush is not true.
Thrush is not a serious problem but if left untreated it can cause major discomfort. In some instances, thrush can also lead to a much serious condition. This is why anyone who thinks that they are suffering from thrush must immediately seek medical advice. Thrush, must never be ignored.
Infections need to be treated. Most infections relating to the vagina if left untreated can only worsen your problem. Symptoms such as irritation and inflammation can spread to the buttocks. Vaginal infections can cause severe pain when passing urine and can make intercourse very painful. It is advised not to engage in intercourse if you have thrush in case you spread the infection.
The medication that your doctor can prescribe can have severe side effects such as nausea, diarrhoea, and dizziness. Contraception that you may use can also be damaged as creams used to treat thrush can corrode the rubber of condoms and diaphragms.
If you are suffering from thrush, you can make yourself more comfortable by not letting synthetic fibers or materials touch the affected area. If there is contact you could cause further irritation. You must wear clothes or undergarments made from natural fibers so as to minimize irritation.
It is not impossible to stop thrush in the first place. However, since vaginal well being relies on a natural amount of yeast anyway it is fairly impossible to try to analyse how much one already has and how much you should prevent. If you have thrush already you should concentrate on treating it.
