A Quinceanera is an event celebrated by Latin Americans, much like a debutante ball. This celebration is to signify a young girl’s journey from child to adulthood. This is a very traditional occasion among Latin Americans.

One of the many traditions of the Quinceanera is for the young girl to dress her best in a gown. Traditionally, the young girl is supposed to wear white but these days, many girls opt for deeply colored gowns that reflect their heritage and their culture. In most cases, the fifteen-year-old girl also wears a tiara and a scepter as a symbol of her impending womanhood. The tiara does not need to be made from real diamonds or other precious stones. Most tiaras for sale are made from beautiful crystals or colored glass that can really brighten up your day.

Traditionally the celebration starts with the Quinceanera wearing a headpiece to church, not a tiara. The tiara is to replace the headpiece worn at the church. At the reception there will be a presentation for the tiara and scepter. The scepter is a symbol of authority. The tiara and scepter can be gifts from the sponsors as a symbol of their trust and anticipation of the girl’s adulthood.

There are other accessories to complement your Quinceanera. Such as the Quinceanera doll, toasting glasses, cake server set, kneeling pillow, tiara pillow, rosary, photo album and guest book. There are also the mementos given to the guests in appreciation of attending the celebration.

A Quinceanera candle is also lit in the more traditional celebration of the Quinceanera ceremony. Another accessory that is a must-have in the Quinceanera celebration is high-heeled shoes. These elegant shoes are traditionally brought in to replace the flat shoes that the celebrant initially wears in the beginning of the ceremony. These high-heeled shoes signify the grown up status that the fifteen-year-old girl has now achieved upon her birthday.

The Quinceanera doll is a very traditional item. It is a representation of the last doll. This means the Quinceanera is moving on from child to adulthood.

You can’t forget about the jewelry accessories. You will need earrings, a necklace and a ring. Consider not wearing too much jewelry if your gown has too much beading , sequins or patterns. On the other hand if you are wearing a simple gown, jewelry will accentuate beautifully.

A lot of young Latin American girls look forward to their Quinceanera. The celebration is symbolic and traditional. Starting from the Aztec traditions and beliefs, this celebration has been handed down from generation to generation. This celebration was soon integrated into the religious Catholic Church. It is the most memorable event in a young girl’s life. All the time and preparation planning a Quinceanera make it worthwhile.
