I am an agent for a major American rock star and part of my responsibilities to him is to make sure that everything is ready for him when he arrives in a city for a tour booking. It has always been an easy part of the job, until last June when he had a booking in New York City. I booked him into a nice hotel and made sure that his dressing room and hotel room were both stocked with the proper things. That was all good and then I called the New York limousine rental company that we always use when we are there, to book a cab from the airport to the hotel, only to be told that they were completely booked up.
I tried to pull the whole bit about who it was for and how famous he was, but they assured me that they could not just whip up another car, and if they could, they certainly would. I wanted to know why they were so busy, and aside from the concert, they informed me that Prom limousines in New York were always booked well in advance and that is exactly what was happening while we were there.
I apologized for being a jerk and they assured me they would contact me should anyone cancel or if they were able to procure another car. Meanwhile I contacted another NYC limo rental company that was more than happy to accommodate me, once they found out who it was for. It just goes to prove, it is all about who you know.
